The City of Kettering, Ohio, is recruiting to fill a full-time Crime Analyst position. The Crime Analyst will perform professional level technical and analytical support in the daily operations of the City’s Police Department. The Crime Analyst is a non-sworn civilian position responsible for responding to requests for information and/or analysis from Police administration, supervisors, officers, other City Divisions and Departments; identifying and predicting trends, patterns, or problems requiring action; and collecting, categorizing, compiling, analyzing, developing and disseminating information including, but not limited to types of crime, identified criminals, potential threats, suspicious persons/events, and known or suspected criminal groups. The Crime Analyst will proficiently use computers, spreadsheets, word processing, business graphics, database management, and mapping and work collaboratively with Department and surrounding law enforcement personnel to gather and exchange information for analysis and presentation; provide technical level administrative crime analysis assistance to staff; compile reports and generates maps; and act as a resource regarding Department statistics. Additionally, the Crime Analyst will assist with purchasing and budget record keeping; and provide backup for payroll coordinators.
The ideal candidate must possess working knowledge of Department administrative regulations; elements of report preparation; use of computers and related software such as Lexis Nexis and crime mapping software, spreadsheets, word processing, graphical presentation and statistical analysis; be proficient in basic principles of quantitative and qualitative analysis; familiarity with pertinent City, State and Federal laws, regulations and practices and have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; process complex information while maintaining attention to detail; research, analyze, and evaluate data for crime solutions and prevention; prepare clear and concise reports; prioritize work and manage time to meet deadlines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; analyze problems, identify alternative solutions and project consequences of proposed actions; make and communicate decisions based on data analysis and observation; interpret and draw logical conclusions from cartographic, business and public administrative data.
Candidate must have an Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Crime Analysis, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Police Science, Public Administration, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Statistical Analysis, Information Management or other related field (Bachelor or Master Degree preferred) with two years of experience in a public safety, emergency management, or other relevant capacity desired, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range is up to $64,085.00 per year. Entry rate is contingent upon candidate’s experience, related skills, knowledge and ability. Benefits include medical and dental insurance, attractive retirement plan, vacation leave, sick leave, holiday pay and other fringe benefits.
