MVRPC hosted its 2nd Introduction to ArcGIS Desktop training session on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Wright State University’s GIS Lab. This was our second session at WSU's lab facility. Many thanks to the good people from WSU that helped make this happen.
We had 15 attendees, and we were pleased to meet many new GIS users.
The session was intended for first time GIS users and focused on hands-on learning on how to use ArcGIS Desktop software. MVRPC staff members served as instructors and each participant had an opportunity to learn how to symbolize GIS data and create a custom map using ArcGIS Desktop.

MVRPC will host a free training session titled Introduction to ArcGIS Desktop on May 23, 2018, at the Wright State University GIS Lab (inside Millet Hall). The session will cover the following topics: basic ArcGIS terminologies, learning about ArcGIS desktop basics, and creating a custom map using ArcGIS Desktop.

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) has two full time (30-40 hours per week) planning/GIS internship positions open during the summer of 2018 (approximately from May 7, 2018 to August 31, 2018) to assist with various regional planning activities, including:
- Long and Short-Range Transportation Planning
- Special Planning Studies
- Land Use Planning
- Data Update, Data Analysis and Map Production using Geographic Information System (GIS)
- Field Surveys/Data Collection
Applicants should possess: knowledge of planning principles and practices; working knowledge of GIS; familiarity with research techniques; skill in the use of various basic software (word processing, databases, spreadsheet, etc).
- Must be currently enrolled in a degree (undergraduate or graduate) program in planning, geography, or related field
- Currently in the second year toward completing a Bachelor’s degree program.
- A personal vehicle to drive and a valid driver’s license are required for field work during working hours.
- Some practical professional experience preferred.

MVRPC’s GIS program received the “Best Practices Award” from the Ohio Geographically Referenced Information Program (OGRIP) and the Map Award for its Miami Valley Equity Regional Profile. The awards were presented during the 2017 Ohio GIS Conference held during September 25 – 27 in Columbus.
